Trout Hunting -the pusuit of happiness - Bob Wyatt gets to the heart of the matter in a book filled with fresh insights and challenges to conventional thinking. Well known to readers of Fly Fishing & Fly Tying magazine, Wyatt presents a wide-ranging and entertaining investigation of some of fly-fishing's central mysteries such as the intelligence of trout, and whether they feel pain. Trout Hunting unpacks the theory of 'selective' trout, and takes the voo-doo out of fly choice. Trout Hunting will help get your strategies organised and inspire reflection on the nature of this fascinating pursuit.

The No-hackle Deer Hair Sedge

6 October 2004 | Page: 1

In a variety of tyings and sizes this fly is simply indispensible. My version couldn’t be simpler. The DHS has a low, semi-submerged posture, and the slightly long deer hair wing does double duty as hopper-style ’legs’. I just apply floatant to the wing and clipped head, so the body fishes well down in the surface film. For low light situations a dark seal’s fur body is always reliable, particularly on northern Scottish lochs where it is the supreme killer in late June and July. For clear streams in bright weather a light, even white, deer hair wing is great with a plain hare’s mask body.
